Roffey is on the north-east side of Horsham, in RH12, and most of it went up between the wars or in the twenty years after: bay-fronted semis, short terraces and some later closes. Town prices apply. A weekly cleaner costs £23 an hour, a bedroom carpet £36, a flight of stairs £41 and a move-out clean from £156.
Stairs with a turn in them
A typical Roffey semi has a bay at the front, a narrow hall, a kitchen extended out the back at some point, and stairs that turn at a half landing. The wedge-shaped steps in that turn are the reason we charge £41 per flight and not per step. The big wand can’t lie flat on them, so they’re done by hand with a small tool, and a flight takes about as long as a bedroom. The bathrooms upstairs are small, which sounds quicker than it is: a small room with a scaled-up shower screen still has the whole screen to descale.
Old cookers and forgotten extractors
Lots of Roffey kitchens still have a freestanding cooker, often with a separate grill on top, and those take longer than the eye-level ovens on the new estates. A single is £77 and a double £110 regardless, and stripping a gas hob is £28 (a ceramic top, £23). In the extended kitchens the extractor tends to be the most neglected thing in the house, as the filter is above head height and easily forgotten. That’s £28 with the filters soaked and the hood degreased.
Near Littlehaven, houses empty early
Littlehaven station is close by and the platform is busy before eight. Most of the regular houses we clean in Roffey are empty from half seven till after six, so weekly visits run from a key or a key safe, on a set day. Weekly is £23 an hour, fortnightly £24, and ironing is £12 an hour on top of the cleaning.
Move-outs here are whole houses
Roffey lets are mostly houses, so a check-out clean is usually two or three bedrooms, £243 or £339, with the oven added if needed. The key is nearly always in a High Street agent’s office, so pick a morning slot to leave time to return it. Add the carpets if the check-in report says they were professionally cleaned.
