Slinfold is a village west of Horsham in RH13, on the Downs Link, the walking and riding path laid along the old railway line. That path is why we clean more hall carpets here than anywhere else we go. Carpet prices are the town’s: bedrooms £36, living rooms £43, through lounges £61, flights of stairs £41.
Downs Link mud
Homes within a few hundred yards of the path get field mud brought in on boots and dogs from October to March, and it travels down the hall into the first room. Dry mud comes out well with hot water extraction, since it’s loose soil in the pile and hasn’t bonded to anything, and a lot of it lifts before we start. Mud trodden in wet and left to dry in layers is harder work and gets extra passes. Let it dry and vacuum first; some months that’s enough by itself.
Walkways and the £67 minimum
A hall and a living room is the most common booking in Slinfold. The dark track worn down the middle of a hall needs a pre-spray and a slow pass, and more water mainly adds drying time. One off jobs have a £67 minimum. A hall on its own is £22, and even with the living room at £43 the pair comes to £65, so it’s charged at £67. Add a bedroom or the stairs and you’re clear of it. Two small jobs on the same morning only meet the minimum once.
Dog hair on the stairs
Most houses out here have a dog. Hair worked into wool pile has to be raised slowly with a pile lifter before the extraction wand achieves much, and stairs are worst because hair collects in the crease between tread and riser, where a vacuum head can’t lie flat. We allow time for it. There’s no dog surcharge, and if another firm quotes one, ask what they do differently for it.
Weekly cleaning on the village day
A weekly clean costs £23 an hour (fortnightly, £24), with ironing at £12 an hour added on top. Slinfold shares a round with Warnham, so both villages get the same days. Country houses take longer than the bedroom count suggests, mostly because of the downstairs space and the boot room nobody mentions on the phone.
Bigger jobs
For a house that hasn’t had a thorough clean in years, a team deep clean at £26 an hour for each cleaner plus £30 of kit gets more done in a day than a weekly cleaner manages in a month. Two cleaners for three hours is £186; three for six hours is £498 if you want the whole house done in one go.
The lanes west of Horsham are narrow in places, so we allow extra travel time and arrive when we said we would. Parking is on the drive. If you live between Slinfold and Broadbridge Heath, we pass through both on the same run. Ring 020 8077 6947 from 8am to 7pm, or fill in the form and we’ll call back within the hour.
Questions we get asked
Can you get dried Downs Link mud out of a carpet?
Usually. Dry mud is loose soil in the pile, so extraction lifts most of what the vacuum leaves. Mud trodden in wet and dried in layers over a winter comes out less completely, and we’ll tell you which kind you’ve got.
Do you do weekly cleaning in Slinfold?
Yes, on the same round as Warnham, so it’s a set day. It’s £23 hourly for weekly visits or £24 for fortnightly, and one cleaner stays with you.
What’s the smallest job you’ll do?
One off work carries a £67 floor, and a lone small room is billed at that. Most people book two rooms. Weekly cleaning isn’t caught by that floor, though each visit is booked for three hours or more.
Do you charge for the drive from Horsham?
No. Slinfold is on a round we’re driving anyway, so the mileage is ours. There’s no Saturday charge either.
